California is flinging open the doors with a grand reopening of the economy today.

This big step means the state is dropping many of it’s rules that have long been in place to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

All of these rules are being loosened by the state. Counties and cities can still opt to be more stringent than the state.

Here’s what’s changing in California on June 15:

-There are no more color-coded county tiers. The state is no longer tracking your county’s tier. All the tiers are dissolving.

-Capacity limits are over. Businesses can operate at regular capacity.

-Social distancing is no longer required. Tables in restaurants no longer need to be placed six feet apart, for example.

-Fully vaccinated people can generally ditch their masks. Unvaccinated individuals will be required to continue wearing face coverings in indoor public settings and indoor businesses (examples include retail, restaurants, theaters, family entertainment centers, meetings, and state and local government offices serving the public).

Fully vaccinated people can generally resume everyday activities without wearing a face covering starting Tuesday. They can go everywhere from the grocery store to a gym mask free, but still need face coverings on public transit and inside schools, health care facilities, prisons and emergency or homeless shelters. (Read more about the updated mask guidance on SFGATE.)

-The travel advisory is no longer in effect.

Here are a few exceptions in the California reopening

-Businesses can still require all customers to wear face coverings. Even if you’re fully vaccinated, you may be asked to wear a face covering to enter some businesses.

-Businesses can also implement vaccine verification to determine whether individuals are required to wear a mask.

-There are restrictions when you attend what the state is calling “mega events.” Indoor venues with 5,000 or more attendees must implement a system that verifies vaccine status or negative test; unvaccinated people without a negative test can’t enter.  A outdoor live events with more than 10,000 people, the states recommend a verification system; those who aren’t vaccinated and don’t show a negative test can enter with a mask.
